Legislative Update - October
At this time, we are at the annual Iowa Firefighters Convention in Manchester, Iowa. It was another great convention and we thank Manchester for hosting and providing wonderful hospitality to our members. Please plan to join us in Oelwein next September!
At convention we invited legislators to join us to discuss fire service issues. We also gave them a ride on an antique farm truck to tour the campgrounds. We then set them up for a water ball contest with the Senators vs Representatives. They had an amazing time participating in this contest, something they had never done before. FYI…..the Representatives won. A traveling trophy will be presented next session at the Chili Cookoff at the Capitol on Jan 27th, 2027.
We are gearing up for the 2027 legislative session. We are still working with the board to establish the priorities. If your department has ideas, please visit with a Board Member or call us to share your ideas.
Mark your calendar for Jan 27, 2027, and bring a roaster of chili for the chili contest. We will gather at 10 a.m. with the lunch serving at 11 a.m. Let a board member know you are coming! It is a great time and you will see Iowa’s beautiful Capitol and meet legislators. It is a day well spent to promote your department.
