Fort Dodge Responds to Residential Fire
On Sept. 15, at approximately 9:48 a.m., the Fort Dodge Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke at the Westridge Townhomes, 302 Avenue M West. Fire crews arrived to find a two-story residential building with fire visible from the front of the structure. Fire attack, primary search, and ventilation operations were initiated immediately upon arrival. The fire originated in an end apartment on the first floor. Firefighters advanced a handline into the structure and brought the main body of fire under control. The fire had extended into the floor system between the first and second levels, requiring additional overhaul operations to locate and extinguish the remaining fire. A second-alarm callback was initiated, bringing seven off-duty Fort Dodge firefighters back to duty to provide additional personnel at the scene and maintain fire department coverage for the community.
FDFD was assisted by Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and MidAmerican Energy. No injuries were reported. One dog was removed without injury by a Webster County Sheriff’s deputy. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fort Dodge Fire Department.
